Ptosis is the medical term for drooping of the eyelid. This can occur when the muscle of the upper eyelid is stretched or damaged. If ptosis occurs on one side, it may create an uneven appearance. Ptosis may also obstruct one’s upper field of vision.
Surgical repair of ptosis is performed to elevate the upper eyelid, restoring a full field of vision and symmetry with the opposite eyelid. Because of the nature of this surgery, it may be covered by insurance.
